Toyota provides detailed criteria for what qualifies as a Toyota Certified Used Vehicle. Meeting these criteria is the first step towards preparing a vehicle for sale. These high standards attract more customers to the TCUV brand and reinforce the trust consumers have in the certified used vehicle mark.

Presenting The Vehicle

To ensure the program is viewed by the customer as a value and a benefit, it needs to be presented properly. As the salesperson walks the customer around the vehicle they will point out the features of the vehicle using the window sticker which includes the Gold Quality Assurance Inspection. This is the starting point to build value in the vehicle for the customer.

Inspection Guidelines

The Toyota Certified inspection process can be broken up into two different categories. They are what you are required to inspect and what Toyota strongly recommends. View details to review the items that need to be inspected in each category.

Detailing and Reconditioning

After the initial detailed point inspection, the Service person identifies the areas of the vehicle that requires detailing and reconditioning, and makes recommendations for the Service Department to work on the vehicles to meet the TCUV standards.

There are four stages of detailing required to ensure that Certified Pre-Owned paint standards are met: (1) Cleaning, (2) Paint Examination, (3) Repair (if required) and (4) Normal Vehicle Preparation

The details and requirements of the four steps are identified in the OEM Technical Service Bulletin (TSB), or any subsequent TSB or updated information.
